The Biblical Goals of Evangelism That Many Christians Miss
When people hear the word evangelism, many often think it ends with telling someone about Jesus and seeing them accept Him. But the Bible shows us that evangelism is much more than a single moment. It is a journey that begins with salvation and continues throughout the believer’s life.
The first goal of evangelism is salvation. Jesus said in John chapter 3 that we must be born again. New birth is the starting point of faith, and it is the greatest miracle of all. But once a person is saved, the work does not stop there. They are called into discipleship, where they learn, grow, and are shaped into the likeness of Christ. Discipleship is best lived out in a local church, where believers can encourage one another and walk together in faith.
The next goal is service. Every believer is called to serve God with the gifts He has given. This means becoming active in the body of Christ, building up others, and living with a heart of obedience. Service is not a short-term task but a lifetime commitment. As believers grow, they not only serve but also help others grow. This is where disciples become disciplers. The mission is not complete until those who were once taught begin to teach others.
This is where many Christians struggle. It is easy to remain comfortable in what we already know, but God calls us to step out in faith. Just as Christopher Columbus left the safety of the shore and discovered new lands, we too must leave our comfort zones to discover the works of God. There are people waiting on the other side of our obedience. If we never share the Gospel, no one will hear. If we never pray for the sick, we will never see God’s answers. Faith always requires us to move forward.
Witnessing vs Evangelism
Evangelism is both about who we are and what we say. Witnessing is the way we live our lives, reflecting Christ through our character. Evangelism is the words we speak, proclaiming the Good News of salvation. Both are needed. A godly life opens the door, but the message of Jesus must still be spoken for someone to believe. Scripture reminds us that faith comes by hearing the Word of God.
This is the heart of evangelism. Salvation leads to discipleship. Discipleship leads to service. And service leads to multiplication as disciples become disciplers. It is a never-ending cycle that keeps the Church alive and growing.
The book explores these truths in a deeper way, showing how God’s mission is not only to save but also to renew, restore, and send His people. If you want to grow in your understanding of evangelism and be encouraged to live boldly for Christ, this book will guide you.
